The Laborers International Union of North America was organized in 1903. Local 43 is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and currently represents 450 trained journeypersons in Linn, Benton, Jones, Clinton and Jackson counties in Iowa. Members of Local 43 subscribe to standards established by the national organization, which helps to insure quality performance by well-trained laborers.

NATURE OF TRADE

Because they assist other building trade workers, the laborer is one of the most important employees in construction.

Some of the different phases of work performed by Laborers include concrete work, brick tenders, plaster tenders, hazardous waste, lead abatement, asbestos abatement, sewer tile, pipe laying, demo work, highway and heavy work, pipeline workers, scaffolding, and other general construction duties.

We offer training through Iowa Laborer’s Building and Training Fund for various phases of the construction industry, including O.S.H.A., First Aid, CPR, and other Annual Safety Courses.
